1. What is the vision for Geyer Commons?

By thoughtfully weaving historic landmarks and public spaces with shopping, dining, and entertainment options of the future, Mansfield will design a space that honors its history and is sure to become a favorite destination for residents and visitors alike quickly. More than a shopping center or retail development, it will be a place for the community to come together and experience the best of Mansfield, past and present.

2. What is the timeline for the development of Geyer Commons?

Phase I is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2024 and includes the following:

• A splash/open fountain feature
• Seating, walkway, and other park amenities
• Makers Market Phase I
• New electric and water lines
• Public restroom
• Roadway and parking

3. What will future phases of Geyer Commons include?

Future phases may include the following:

• Makers Market Phase II
• Relocation/reconstruction of historic Mansfield buildings
• Recruiting commercial opportunities for historical sites
• Demolition of properties currently on the property (excluding the original Mansfield High School, Rock Gym, and Walnut Creek Gazebo)

4. Why are we considering moving and/or recreating historic homes in this space?

This element creates a unique environment that celebrates our roots while building toward the future. It allows future generations to experience Mansfield’s journey while providing a new shared experience for the community.

5. How will the City of Mansfield handle the historic Rock Gym, original Mansfield High School and gazebo?

The city’s goal is to recognize these historic landmarks and allow people to experience them while learning about Mansfield’s past. The City of Mansfield is committed to maintaining the high school, Rock Gym, and gazebo while developing a plan for potential uses following a review of the conditions and potential.

6. When will the exchange take place?

The development will occur in phases. The land exchange will occur immediately with the actual move-out of entities from their existing facilities to take place at a later date. The exchange enables the immediate development and construction of Phase I for Geyer Commons to begin.

7. How does the property exchange impact taxpayers?

Only property will be exchanged, and there will be an added value of bringing a new tax base to the community.

8. If City Hall becomes a Mansfield ISD facility, where will the City of Mansfield move?

Staff and City Council will remain at the current City Hall until the construction of a new City Hall is completed within the Mansfield Reserve.

9. How will the City pay for the Geyer Commons renovations/development?

The City of Mansfield plans to fund this project’s development within their existing resources.

10. What about the Mansfield Public Library and Mansfield Activities Center complex?

No plans have been made to relocate those facilities and services will remain in their current location and maintain space for future potential growth.

11. How can I utilize a maker space?

12. How did the City of Mansfield City Council and Mansfield ISD Board of Trustees agree to this proposal?

Both parties of elected officials agree this is a win for the school district, a win for the city, and a win for the community. The proposal for an exchange was born in a joint session with a focus on working together as one on a shared vision for Mansfield. City and school leaders agree that this project allows all parties involved to share resources, save taxpayer funds, and develop a one-of-a-kind remarkable experience for Mansfield families. Both parties are elected to represent the best interest of the community and, through this project, have a united goal to celebrate our past together while growing for our future together.

13. How will MISD'S move to City Hall impact departments?

By consolidating into one specific location, the move will provide a more efficient and impactful working environment for MISD staff.

14. Will the MISD boardroom move to the current City Council facility?

The Mansfield ISD Board of Trustees will continue to hold regular meetings at the Dr. Jim Vaszauskas Center for the Performing Arts. The board will have the option to hold special meetings at the current City Council facility if needed.
