Two New Park Projects Announced

gertie barrett news flash

What's the only thing better than Mansfield parks? MORE Mansfield parks! BETTER Mansfield parks!

We are thrilled to announce two new projects recently approved by City Council. Just in time for the 25th anniversary of its opening, resident-favorite Katherine Rose Memorial Park is getting a major renovation, including a complete layout overhaul and brand new playground. The goal for this project is to create a signature, destination playground that is optimized for children of ALL abilities to play together.

At the same time, we're developing a brand NEW park off Gertie Barrett Road and Garretson Lane. This much-needed neighborhood park will hopefully include a large playground, splash pad, walking trail and nature area for the residents in the northwest quadrant of Mansfield.

Right now, both projects are early in the design phase so no specific details or timeline has been confirmed, but funding has been approved for both with a goal to have both completed by the end of next summer. Our 2020 Parks and Recreation Master Plan highlighted the need for adding/updating neighborhood parks and playgrounds, as well as adding aquatics and more special needs opportunities. We are thrilled to add two more projects to our to-do list that tackle all of these issues and more!
