AT&T has been working in Mansfield for the last several months expanding its new fiber service throughout the city, and officials this week said they expect the construction to extend into 2022.
“Once this new service is operational, it will provide data transfer rates as fast as 1 gig,” company officials said of the Mansfield project. “AT&T has been working in Mansfield for the last several years extending and expanding our infrastructure. There is a growing demand for faster Internet speeds. This new fiber service is designed to meet those demands.
AT&T is one of two cable and Internet companies that provide service in Mansfield. Charter Spectrum, who was the city’s original cable franchise holder, also provides service to Mansfield customers.
Company officials said the AT&T contractors are working as quickly and diligently as possible on the overlay project. He said they are providing communications to residents in the areas where they are working and establishing a hotline phone number and website to address questions and complaints.
City staff said the company and their contractors also stay in contact with the City’s public works department and coordinate repairs of any damage to public infrastructure. The process to overlay the new fiber takes time, they said, and they asked residents to be patient with the process.
“AT&T is committed to restoring areas disturbed during the construction process as quickly as we can,” company officials said. “We want to minimize any disruptions and address any issues that may arise at any residence.”
The company works within the utility easement of each property or in public rights of way. Some work in the easement may require technicians to access them across property lines or in back yards.
According to AT&T door hangers are placed on the properties prior to the fiber installation. Each communication has the name and number for the main point of contact for the project. He said calls or emails to the hotline will be answered within 24 to 48 hours.
