- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) involve combinations of information grouped by layers (city limit lines, streets, water lines, parks, etc.) and organized in order to visualize, analyze and display spatial data. The City’s GIS Department maintains and distributes geographic information, analysis tools and mapping products for use by staff in their daily operations.
Data maintained by the GIS Department includes political boundaries, land parcel information, infrastructure systems (street network, water systems, sewer systems), emergency response facilities, recreational facilities and other associated data pertaining to city operations. Data is maintained in both computer-aided design (CAD) and GIS file formats.
The GIS staff also develop and maintain GIS databases and applications, provide technical and operational support for GIS-related hardware and software and offer GIS training for City staff, as well as providing mapping products and services to the residents of Mansfield.
