Residential Garage/Estate Sale Permits

Permit Required

City Ordinance § 98.50 requires that you obtain a Garage Sale Permit prior to having a Garage Sale.  

  • Garage Sale Permits are issued by property address. Each address is allowed two (2) garage sales per calendar year.
  • A garage sale shall not exceed three (3) consecutive days in duration for each permit.
  • A garage sale may be conducted from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • No more than three(3) signs may be allowed per garage sale. Signs shall be allowed with the consent of the property owner at off-site locations. 
  • Signs shall be permitted in the city street right-of-way, but shall not be placed in any street median on any fence, sign pole, utility pole, or other fixed objects in the City right-of-way. 
  • Signs shall not be placed in such a manner as to obscure vision at an intersection, traffic sign, or signal. 

Sales affected by rain or inclement weather: The City of Mansfield does not have a rain-out policy that will allow you to reschedule your garage sale.

Online:

Submit your application online 2 days prior to the Garage Sale allowing time to process the application and fee payment.   After you complete the application process, as long as you meet the above requirements, you will receive an e-mail from staff with the fee due and how to coordinate payment. After fees are paid the permit will be issued and you will receive your permit by email, please retain the email until your garage sale is complete.
