History

Although this cemetery is located in Dallas County, there are links to Mansfield’s early settlers. The families of James Holland, Jacob and Drusilla Boydston, Isaac Lowe and Robert Ground came from Illinois to this area in 1848. When the Boydston’s son Henry died later that year, he was buried at the family farm. In 1870, the Boydston’s deeded 3.5 acres surrounding their son’s grave for cemetery, church and school purposes. The cemetery was enlarged in 1907 with the purchase of an additional one and a half acres from A.T. Baggett. The cemetery remains active and is maintained by a cemetery association. Interred here are many of the area’s pioneers and their descendants.
